Avedon @ ICP

On Friday night, I headed out to the Avedon Fashion 1944-2000 opening at ICP with Art Buyer, Catherine Johnson. It was crowded, but not as crowded as I expected.  We did run into Tracey Thomas from Utopia, but that was it for our industry sightings. 

As we wandered the galleries, we were struck by how beautifully printed and glamorous the images were. We wondered if the glamour was partially due to the fact that the models were older than models that we see today in fashion photography.

The exhibition was an interesting mix of exhibition prints, work prints and a few contact sheets along with examples of the actual spreads from the magazines.   A great way to get some insight into the Avedon's creative workflow.

Elliott Wilcox, "Courts"

While at the NY Photo Festival 09 Awards,  I fell in love with the series of images by the winner of the Student Fine Art Series category, Elliot Wilcox entitled, "Courts."  The photographs are bold, colorful and graphic depictions of racquet sport courts.
